In my studio

Hello! I am delighted that you are interested in my artistic work and me.

My name is Florian Tschörner, I was born in Innsbruck, Austria, in 1972, and I have been working as an artist for over 20 years.

After a turbulent and exciting personal reorientation, since mid-2024 I have once again found the time and leisure to devote myself to my new creative period, which I am happy to present to you here.

Yours,

A little bit about my life

Born into a musical family, the fine arts have been a part of my life since childhood. I learned to play the violin and viola at an early age and was interested in a future as a professional musician in my youth. Due to my interest in other forms of expression, I completed training in film and television after finishing school and worked for several years in software development with a focus on multimedia. At the same time, I also began to pursue artistic activities and can look back on a number of exhibitions in Austria and Germany during this time.

Most recently, I initiated and curated an off-space gallery in my hometown, published a regional cultural magazine together with writer and journalist friends, and ran a very successful live music venue where international stars from the worlds of jazz and contemporary music performed and many local talents began their careers.

In 2017, I began a phase of personal reorientation by relocating to Carinthia and starting a family, during which I worked as an illustrator, commercial artist, and craftsman. It was not until 2024 that I found the peace and leisure to devote myself to painting again, and since 2025 I have been concentrating on my current creative period.

A little more about my current work

Currently, I am primarily creating a series of landscape paintings, which I have grouped under the title “MEER SEEN | mehr sehen” (“SEE THE SEA | see more“).

>>   In this series of works, I deal with looking into the distance—a kind of “far-sightedness,” so to speak, which I believe we have lost in everyday life, especially under the constant influence of social media and its filter bubbles, which inevitably flood us with exaggerated ideal images in advertising and increasingly polarizing public opinion.
Constantly following social pressure, conforming to certain clichés and roles, and feeling compelled to meet supposedly universal expectations, we all too often forget to “think outside the box” and critically examine our perceptions, to form our position (opinion) – following an anthroposophical worldview – in accordance with our position (location) as part of the whole.

My “landscape views” are less concerned with reproducing a real, observed scene: they direct the gaze inward, into the heart or our soul—as if one were to close one’s eyes and dream, or better yet, gaze unfocused at a point beyond the horizon, marveling at the immeasurable potentiality of existence. The realization that, in view of all possibilities, the moment is fleeting and ultimately insignificant (“Today is tomorrow’s yesterday,” “Everything is possible,” “Light at the end of the tunnel,” etc.) can—if one accepts this—provide emotional stability, convey peace and security, and give hope and strength. This foresight allows us to take a deep breath, to free ourselves, at least for and from the moment, and to concentrate again—strengthened, reorganized, and refocused—on the challenges on this side of the screen.   <<

Something about how I work

Based on quick sketches, snapshots, and photo templates, I first feel my way toward a composition that feels right to me, which serves as a drawing template for transferring a motif onto canvas. Ultimately, however, I do not consider these to be binding, but rather prefer to let my feelings guide me as I paint. The creation of a work is therefore very intuitive and emotional, which is reflected in the atmospheric colorfulness and mood of the works.

Something about my intention

I pursue my work on this series with passion and sincerity. Just as nature is rooted in stone and earth, I want to grow on a healthy artistic foundation. I strive more for continuity in the development of my work, remaining true to its substance, than for speculative positioning in the art market. I create for hopeful people who take their dreams seriously and seek fulfillment, and who place ethical values above profit and prestige.

Where you can find my work

Buyers of my works – mainly from German-speaking countries, but also from the US and Asia – become aware of my works at trade fairs, sales events, and pop-up exhibitions. I have to take a break from exhibitions at the moment, as I am unable to build up a sufficiently large portfolio due to high demand and numerous commissions. However, I am happy to offer you my works published here and welcome inquiries about commissioned work.
