Originals, Prints and Commissions

What is the difference between a commission, a print and an original?

An original artwork is a one-of-a-kind piece of art created by the artist’s own hand.

A print is a high-quality reproduction of an original artwork that is subsequently printed on a new medium such as paper or canvas. Art prints allow people to own and enjoy a copy of an artwork that may not be accessible or affordable in its original form.

Commissioning art is the process of hiring an artist to create one or more original artworks according to specific guidelines.

Lead Times, Packaging and Shipping

What is the lead time for artwork?

Every order is processed as quickly as possible, but still requires a specific lead time. Originals are generally available immediately and only need to be carefully packaged. Prints are made to order only, which can take between 5 and 15 business days, depending on the production option. If the “hand finishing” option is selected for prints, this careful handiwork takes up to an additional 5 business days. Optional framing also takes some time due to the careful manual work involved. In order to meet your high quality expectations, you should allow for a lead time of up to 20 days plus shipping time when utilizing all production options.

I take the secure packaging and shipping of your order very seriously. Fine art canvas prints stretched on stretcher frames are wrapped in bubble wrap and shipped in sturdy shipping boxes. Unstretched fine art canvas prints and fine art prints on paper are carefully rolled up, wrapped in tissue paper, and shipped in appropriate packaging. Certificates of authenticity are included with the order.
